What does a Y-piece splitter actually do?

A Y-piece splits one regulator outlet into two lines, so two torches or two outlets can run from a single cylinder. Valved versions let each leg be shut off independently, which saves walking back to the regulator when only one line is in use. Match the Y-piece to the gas side — fuel gas and oxygen versions carry different threads, so they can't be mixed up.
