Gouging Carbons
Products
Gouging carbons for air carbon-arc work — CIGWELD Arcair DC flat rods, CutSkill and Supre Gouge pointed carbons plus UNIMIG 305mm pointed rods, in sizes from roughly 6.5mm to 9.5mm and packs of 10 or 50. Air-arc gouging remains the fastest way to remove weld metal: back-gouging root runs, digging out cracks and defects, removing temporary attachments and cutting up heavy scrap.
What size gouging carbon should I use?
Match the carbon to the groove and the machine. Smaller diameters around 6.5mm cut narrow grooves and run on mid-size machines, while 9.5mm rods hog out metal fast but demand serious amperage — as a rule of thumb around 50–60 amps per millimetre of carbon diameter — plus plenty of compressed air. Pointed carbons suit general gouging; flat rods leave a wide, shallow scarf for surface defect removal.
WeldCo supplies gouging carbons to heavy fabrication and maintenance shops from Melbourne and Adelaide.
