Which stainless TIG rod for 304 versus 316 stainless?
Match the filler to the parent grade: 308L for 304 and 304L, and 316L for 316 where molybdenum provides chloride resistance. Use 309L when joining stainless to carbon steel, and avoid welding 316 with 308L on corrosion-critical work — the joint loses the molybdenum the grade was specified for.
