Low hydrogen electrodes in E7016 and E7018 classifications — CIGWELD Ferrocraft 61, 55U and 7016, WIA Austarc 16TC, UNIMIG Hyperarc 16TC and 7018, and ESAB OK Spezial 53.16 in sealed packets. These are the sticks for structural steel, high-restraint joints and anything a welding procedure governs.
Why use low hydrogen electrodes, and how should they be stored?
Their coating keeps diffusible hydrogen out of the weld metal, preventing hydrogen-assisted cold cracking in thick, restrained or higher-strength steel. That protection only holds if the coating stays dry: keep rods sealed, store opened packs in a heated oven to the maker's spec, and re-dry exposed electrodes before code work. Damp low hydrogen rods give none of the protection you bought them for.
