Extraction fans and arms are the components that move air and position the capture point in a fixed fume extraction setup. How close should an extraction arm be to the weld?

As a general rule, an extraction hood works best positioned within roughly one duct diameter of the arc, angled so fume is drawn away from the welder's face. Capture efficiency drops quickly with distance, so repositioning the arm as you move along a weld matters as much as fan power.
