Carbon arc gouging is fastest for washing out big welds and defects in heavy plate. Plasma gouges cleaner and quieter with less carbon contamination, and the same machine doubles as your cutting tool. For sheet and plate cutting, match the machine's clean-cut rating to your usual thickness with headroom for pierce starts.
