Driver drills built for metalwork and general fit-out: Metabo 18V brushless LTX class drills with 130Nm of torque, anti-kick-back protection and quick-change or re-tensioning chucks, 3-speed gearboxes, and a dedicated 18V metal drill running to 4000rpm for clean holes in steel. Compact 12V PowerMaxx drill/drivers at 45Nm cover service work, while 18V brushless screwdrivers with soft-torque settings up to 5000rpm handle repetitive fastening. Most are available skin-only to slot into an existing battery platform, or as kits with LiHD packs and an air-cooled charger.
How much torque does a driver drill need?
Around 45Nm handles fastening and small-bore drilling; 130Nm with a proper metal chuck covers hole saws, step drills and structural fixings. At that torque, anti-kick-back matters — it stops the drill wrenching your wrist when a bit jams.
