Shank & Reduced Shank

Reduced shank and hex shank drill bits — drill to 25mm from a 13mm chuck, plus quick-release impact bits and Sutton slot drills.

Products

This range solves the big-hole problem: reduced shank drills like the Sutton D188 set run 16, 18, 22 and 25mm diameters on a 1/2 inch shank, so they fit a standard 13mm chuck. Alongside them sit hex shank quick-release gold-series bits for impact drivers and Sutton carbide slot drills in plain shank sizes.

How can I drill a 22mm hole with a 13mm chuck?

Use a reduced shank (blacksmith) drill — the cutting diameter is larger than the shank, so a 13mm chuck drives bits up to 25mm. Run them at low RPM with firm, even feed, and pilot drill first to reduce the load on the web.

WeldCo supplies reduced shank drills to metal trades across Melbourne and Adelaide.
